Is Diet Coke a healthy replacement for normal fizzy drinks? Can it really help you to lose weight or, at least a good choice when wanting to cut down on calories? Like with most foods and drinks Diet Coke has many pros and cons. Some experts would say that any kind of fizzy drinks are a complete no-no when it comes to losing weight and living a healthier life. While other people would say that Diet Coke contains zero calories so why not drink it if you prefer the taste.

Make the switch

Artificial sweeteners don’t have the same effects as sugar. They don’t decay your teeth or affect blood sugar levels in diabetics like sugar does. Also, judicious use can help in weight loss. For example, let’s say that you drank 3 normal cans of Coke a day and then switched to Diet Coke, you would cut your daily calorie intake by 480, that’s 3,360 a week.

If you do drink a lot of soft drinks, then it’s possible by doing this to lose one pound of fat a week, given that any extra 3500 calories that are not used are stored as about one pound of fat on our bodies.
There are so many healthy options available these days, that it’s really difficult to see why we’re seeing an ever increasing obesity problem. This situation has led some people to believe that artificial sweeteners are the problem, when the problem actually lies elsewhere.

The fact is a low-fat or no-fat diet just makes you hungry for more sweets to counterbalance the horrible taste bland foods have.
We don’t just eat and drink because we are hungry, but also because we crave different kinds of tastes and flavours, when foods lack those certain tastes we’re used to we try to make up for it.

Caffeine

Then there are those people to rely on high doses of caffeine every day. A caffeine addiction is becoming more and more common in today’s world, even though most of us don’t class it as a real addiction. Caffeine is a great stimulant because it keeps us focused and active, we like the energy boost we get out of it when we drink something that contains caffeine. This is one of the reasons why caffeine is used in a lot of modern diet pills. It can also have a mild appetite suppressant effect.

Diet Coke for weight loss

If you drink regular soft drinks every day, you can help speed up your weight loss and improve your health by switching to the Diet version. It will give you that caffeine boost and won’t add inches to your waist line.

If you’re someone who enjoys spoon fulls of sugars in their coffee or tea, try switching to artificial sweeteners or better still weaning yourself off sugar.

Of course, replacing meals with Diet Coke or any coke for that matter is not a good idea. Even if caffeinated beverages are a great help when dieting, you should not skip meals and - as you already know by now - you should plan for a balanced, healthy diet. This will help you make the most of your weight loss efforts and will ensure long term results.
