Have you been asking yourself this question after doing a weight loss program for 6 months or a year? Maybe you have been exercising and watching your diet for over a year and you don’t seem to have made much progress and you’re wanting to know why.

Some people make a great start and lose all their excess weight in the first 6 months and then put it back on again. If this has been getting you down then its most likely that you’ve been staying away from your plan. You’re not the only one, this is a common problem for a lot of dieters like yourself.

Why

First take a visit to your Doctor to ensure that you’re not suffering from type 2 diabetes. Once that has been crossed off its very likely that you’re suffering from the same problem most people who are trying to lose weight suffer. They have made up their own weight loss program with little or no knowledge on the subject. Or they’re not sticking to what was prescribed to them by an expert. If you’re constantly taking days off your plan or only sticking to it when you feel like it then it’s never going to work. If a plan has been prescribed to you which is totally unrealistic then you’re not going to stick to it either. A diet and exercise plan has to be well thought out and fitted to a persons lifestyle.

Diet tips

Something that does work is finding healthy meals that you actually think taste good and you can combine with vegetables. You can’t keep trying different diets forever, you must stick to things that work. Only use proven diet plans that you can stick to long term.

If you have been using semi-skimmed milk which contains a low amount of fat, try using skimmed milk which doesn’t contain any fat. Instead of eating red meats like beef, pork and lamb, eat lean protein like turkey, chicken, fish and eggs. You can also get good protein from vegetables and beans which contain as much protein as animal products but no-where near as many calories.

Avoid snacks

Another idea is to stay away from snacks. Don’t keep any at home or even buy them for your children. Some people will need the whole families support to help them to lose weight. Even though the snacks in the cupboard aren’t yours they’re very difficult to avoid when you’re craving sugar. If your health and getting a slimmer body is more important to you than snacksthen don’t buy any for anyone.

Weight lifting for quicker weight loss

If possible, include some weight lifting exercise into your routine. Cardiovascular exercise is great and should be a part of your weight loss plan but once you stop exercising for more than a couple of days you stop burning calories. If you lift weights and increase the lean tissue on your body you’ll burn more calories even when you’re sat on the sofa for hours. Don’t worry about looking like a man – women don’t have the testosterone to build muscle like men. Keep the weight level to what you can manage and stick to 10 – 15 reps.
